Here’s a nice tune from country blues singer and guitar player Mississippi Fred McDowell.
Born in 1904, McDowell worked most of his life as a cotton picker 40 miles south of Memphis and he would perform music at dances and picnics.
McDowell use to play slide guitar using a pocket knife that was later replaced by a beef rib bone and eventually a glass slide for its clearer sound.
Considered by many as the first of the bluesman from the ‘north Mississippi’ region, his style was then carried on by musicians such as R.L. Burnside and Junior Kimbrough.
He died of cancer in 1972 at the age of 68.
