Why internet users don’t use the sharing buttons?

No matter how visible the sharing and social buttons are on a website, only one in ten users makes good use of them. The sharing buttons are normally placed at the bottom of a post, so that when you’ve finished reading it, you can email it, share it on Twitter or Facebook.

According to Addthis, the social sharing service that millions of websites are using, people still prefer to share what they’ve found on the internet by copying and pasting the URLs and emailing or skyping the links to friends. Is this because they don’t know about the buttons or because they are scared of using them? That I don’t know. It would be nice if you could tell me your opinion on the matter.

Another interesting fact is that the peak hour for sharing is 9.30 am (I’m guessing this is when people get in the office) and Wednesday is the most popular day of the week for sharing.
